Clams stay on the bottom of the ocean and do collect sand / grit from time to time due to weather and tides. Please note : Always a good idea to rinse your clams a few hours before steaming and eating, DO NOT SOAK in water, giving them a rinse it will get their systems working again thinking that they are back in the water.
We always recommend adding extra water to the steaming process as well to help eliminate sand / grit from the meat.
We also recommend serving your clams with a broth cup to add extra flavor and to help remove any extra sand/grit by sloshing them about before the butter application.
